This standard delineates the specifications for hard-drawn steel wire fabric, comprising hard-drawn steel wire fused with cross wires through electrical welding. It serves as reinforcement for concrete.

The hard-drawn steel wire fabric will be categorized into two types:

• 1) Oblong mesh

• 2) Square mesh

The wire used in fabric manufacturing must be hard-drawn steel wire that meets all standards and is appropriate for welding. Fabrication involves spacing the main and cross wires, securely fixed at their intersections through electric welding to ensure stability during handling and concreting without exceeding specified displacement limits. Fabrication and finishing processes are imperative. Butt joints in the wire fabric must undergo electrical welding, with staggered joints.

The mesh sizes, weight, and wire sizes for square and oblong welded wire fabric will be determined through mutual agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. All wires in the final fabric must meet the minimum physical property requirements outlined in the standard.

The subsequent test must be conducted for Hard Drawn Steel Wire Fabric.

• Tensile test

• Bend test

• Dimensions

• Sizes of sheets

• Mechanical properties

MARKING

Marking must adhere to IS 1566:1982 standards. When material is delivered in bundles, the manufacturer must attach a metal tag with a suitable identification mark to each bundle. Optionally, the standard mark (ISI Mark) can be applied to bundles. To use the standard mark (ISI Mark), the manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted after a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during a visit to the manufacturing premises.
