RETRO-REFLECTIVE DEVICES IS/ISO 6742 (PART 2): 2015

BIS CERTIFICATION FOR RETRO-REFLECTIVE DEVICES IS/ISO 6742 (PART 2): 2015

In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.

Lets delve deeper into IS/ISO 6742 (Part 2): 2015 for Retro-reflective Devices.

Every retro-reflective device must have permanent markings indicating the part number of ISO 6742, along with the manufacturer's name or trademark. Products meeting the Indian Standard and covered by a license must display the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). Marking should adhere to the requirements outlined in IS 6742 (part 2): 2015. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted after a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production processes.

This standard outlines the photometric and physical criteria for retro-reflective devices installed on bicycles intended for public road use. These retro-reflective devices play a crucial role in enhancing cyclist visibility during low-visibility conditions and at night, thus aiding in alerting all road users to the presence of cyclists.

Retro-reflective devices are categorized according to IS/ISO 6742-2:2015 based on Product Type and Color, as outlined below:

The reflector must satisfy the photometric and colorimetric criteria specified in the standard. CIL values for reflectors and retro-reflective tires should meet or exceed the standards outlined. Additionally, the reflector must feature a clearly defined preferred assembly method to ensure proper orientation when mounted on the bicycle.

For testing purposes, samples of each specific type of Retro-Reflective Device (Reflector, Retro-reflective Tyres, Retro-reflective Spokes, and Retro-reflective Spoke Cases) must be included.

TESTS

The subsequent test must be conducted for Retro-reflective devices.

A properly maintained laboratory is required for conducting various tests in accordance with the methods outlined in the standard.
