OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This new Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette, with exceptions for previously initiated matters.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Steel Wire used in staples, pins, and clips, domestically manufactured steel and steel products are exempt from conforming to any other specifications required by foreign buyers for export.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with the corresponding Indian Standards 4224: 1972 immediately upon implementation. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
