OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024 under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020 and takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette, except for previously conducted matters.
Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Hot-Rolled Steel Plates, Sheets, and Strips used in the manufacture of Agricultural Tillage Discs, domestically produced steel and steel products are exempt if they meet specifications requested by foreign buyers for export.
Each steel and steel product listed in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 9442: 1980 immediately upon implementation. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards.
Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
Violation of any provision of this Order may result in penalties as per section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
Any amendments or updates to the Indian Standards specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards will apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
