This standard outlines the specifications for round steel wires used for Heald in the following applications:

• 1) Healds for jacquard harness;

• 2) Healds for dobby harness;

• 3) Mail wire healds inset for jute weaving;

• 4) Contact wire healds for jute weaving.

• 5) Healds designed for weaving cotton, silk, woolen, and worsted fabrics; and

• 6) Twin wire healds used for frame weaving.

Steel heald wire is a top-tier, high carbon steel wire utilized in crafting the heald, an integral component of the harness on a weaving loom. The wire must be manufactured using steel produced through the open hearth, electric duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes.

The general supply requirements for steel wire will be outlined in a standard. Steel wire should be provided in coil form, adhering to the sizes specified in the standard. The material must undergo testing to verify compliance with standard requirements.

• Tensile test

• Dead wire test

PACKING AND MARKING

The wire will be supplied in either oiled or unoiled condition, packaged appropriately as per agreement between the purchaser and the manufacturer. Each wire coil should be tightly bound and accompanied by a tag indicating the manufacturer's name or trademark, wire type and size, lot number, and coil weight. Optionally, the coil may also feature an ISI mark.

To utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), the Manufacturer is required to secure a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted following a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
