The Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Commerce, has issued a significant update regarding the Implementation of Import Management Systems for IT Hardware. This notification aligns with DGFT Notification No. 23/2023 and subsequent notifications, which imposed restrictions on specific IT hardware imports. Key clarifications include:

1. Special Economic Zone (SEZ) units and EOUs/EHTP/STPI/BTP are excluded from 'restricted import authorization' for limited IT hardware, meant solely for internal use.

2. There are no import restrictions on spares and components for IT hardware.

3. Specific IT hardware items used as Capital Goods are exempt from import licensing, such as laptops/tablets accompanying designated machinery.

4. Importers can request multiple authorizations valid until September 30, 2024. Adjustments in quantity are permissible, as long as the total value remains unchanged, and applications are processed online through the DGFT Website.
