The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, exercising authority conferred by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020 and takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette, with exceptions for previously conducted matters.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Tinned Steel Wire used in the Banding of Armatures and Rotors: Part III Specific Requirements for magnetic banding wires, domestically produced steel and steel products are exempt if they meet specifications requested by foreign buyers for export.

Each steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 8510 (Part III): 1977 immediately upon implementation. Additionally, it must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
