The Ministry of Steel has released the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority vested by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and becomes effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, excluding activities conducted before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Steel used in the production of volute, helical, and laminated springs for automotive suspension, domestically produced steel and steel products that meet specifications requested by foreign purchasers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product identified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 3431: 1982 immediately upon enforcement. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by an authorized manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.
