This standard delineates the general corrosion resistance criteria for stainless steel wire, excluding wire utilized in welding electrode production. IS 8910: 1978 outlines the general material supply prerequisites.

Unless specified otherwise in the order, manufacturers have the discretion to determine the processes employed in steel and product manufacturing. The wire's surface must be devoid of harmful defects, ensuring smoothness. Steel wire may be provided in annealed condition, with the base steel's chemical composition meeting standard specifications.

PACKING AND MARKING:

Each coil or bundle of wire must be securely bound and packaged as per agreement between the purchaser and manufacturer. It should be clearly marked with essential details such as the manufacturing source, steel designation, supply condition, wire diameter, batch number, and manufacturing date. Optionally, the Standard Mark can be applied. To use the Standard Mark, the manufacturer must obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, which is granted based on a successful assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
