The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released an extension order named the "Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

Effective Dates:

• The effective date for entities other than Micro and Small Enterprises is October 19, 2024.

• The implementation date for Small Enterprises is set for January 19, 2025.

• The implementation date for Micro Enterprises is scheduled for April 19, 2025.

Copper products must conform to the Indian Standard IS 12444:2020, which specifically addresses copper wire rods for electrical applications. These products are required to display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions:

• Micro and small enterprises, as outlined in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are required to comply with the designated Indian Standards.

• This directive excludes goods or articles intended for domestic production for the purpose of export.
