Key update regarding the Indian Standard applicable to current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers for the Wood-Based Boards (Medium density fibre boards for general purpose) (Quality Control) Order, 2024.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," scheduled to take effect starting February 11, 2025.

However, for small enterprises defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, enforcement will commence on May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, on August 11, 2025.

Under this order, Medium density fibre boards intended for general purpose must comply with Indian Standard 12406:2021 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 as per Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It's important to note that this order excludes domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export from its application.

The Bureau of Indian Standards will act as the certifying and regulatory authority for Medium density fibre boards intended for general purpose.

Individuals found violating the provisions of this order will face penalties in accordance with the relevant legislation.
