OVERVIEW
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has announced the "Wood Based Boards (Quality Control) Order, 2024," set to come into force starting February 11, 2025.
However, for small enterprises defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, enforcement will begin on May 11, 2025, and for micro-enterprises, on August 11, 2025.
According to this order, Prelaminated particle boards made from wood and other lignocellulosic materials must meet Indian Standard 12823:2015 and display the Standard Mark, obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) under Scheme-1 as specified in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.
It's important to note that this order excludes domestically manufactured goods or articles intended for export from its applicability.
The Bureau of Indian Standards will oversee the certification and enforcement for Prelaminated particle boards made from wood and other lignocellulosic materials.
Individuals found violating the provisions of this order will face penalties in accordance with the relevant legislation.
