The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, utilizing authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette, excluding actions initiated before this supersession.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, specifically the Specification for Quenched and Tempered Alloy Steel Forgings for Pressure Vessels, domestically produced steel and steel products that meet alternative specifications requested by international buyers for export are granted exemption.

Every steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 12145:1987 from the moment it is implemented. Additionally, each product must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
