Surviving in today's competitive market without a certified product of standard quality is challenging. BIS licenses may also be necessary to utilize the standard ISI Mark and market products in India. To achieve BIS certification and manufacture a top-quality product, manufacturers must ensure their product aligns with the Indian standard.
Let's delve deeper into IS 12492:1988 for Textile Reinforced Thermoplastics Hoses used in Compressed Air applications.
IS 12492:1988 pertains to Thermoplastic Hoses (Textile Reinforced) designed for Compressed Air applications. This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards on November 9, 1988, following the approval of the draft by the Petroleum, Coal, and Related Products Division Council and the Rubber Products Sectional Committee. With the increased production and usage of thermoplastic hoses in developed nations, their utilization has also expanded in India, prompting some manufacturers to enter this market. Rubber and plastic hoses offer distinct advantages and disadvantages depending on the application. Recognizing these shifts and advancements, BIS formulated a standard for thermoplastic hoses.
This standard outlines the specifications, sampling techniques, and testing protocols for thermoplastic hoses reinforced with textiles, designed to withstand working pressures of up to 1.4 MPa and operating temperatures ranging from -10 to +55°C.
This standard encompasses the following three types of hoses:
Type 1 - industrial air hoses with a maximum working pressure of 0.7 MPa,
Type 2 - industrial air hoses with a maximum working pressure of 1.0 MPa, and
Type 3 - air hose for heavy-duty mining and construction work with a maximum pressure of 1.4 MPa.
Every hose length should bear the manufacturer's name or trademark, the IS number, hose type, nominal bore size, design working pressure, and manufacturing quarter and year. These markings should be applied approximately every 10 meters for lengthy hoses. Additionally, standard ISI Marks may be affixed to each hose length.
Before utilizing a standard mark, manufacturers must secure a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards for Thermoplastic Hoses (Textile Reinforced) designed for Compressed Air. This license is granted following a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and production processes. BIS certification for Thermoplastic Hoses (Textile Reinforced) is imperative to ensure compliance with relevant Indian standards. Obtaining BIS certification is crucial for manufacturers to instill consumer confidence and maintain the ability to export and market their products within India.
Acquiring a BIS license entails a detailed evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control capabilities, testing facilities, and production processes. This comprehensive assessment guarantees that the products not only meet regulatory requirements but also ensure safety and reliability for consumers.
