BIS CERTIFICATION FOR ALUMINIUM AND ALUMINIUM ALLOY INGOTS AND CASTINGS IS 617-1994
In a significant move aimed at guaranteeing the quality and safety of aluminum and aluminum alloy ingots and castings in India, the Central Government has issued an important notification. This notification, dated August 31, 2023, holds significant implications for manufacturers, importers, and consumers of these products.
Acknowledging the significance of upholding superior standards in the manufacturing and supply of aluminum and aluminum alloy ingots and castings, the Central Government has initiated a crucial measure. It has stipulated that these products must adhere to the relevant Indian Standard outlined in IS 617:1994.
Under this latest regulation, aluminum and aluminum alloy ingots and castings meeting the specified Indian Standard will be permitted to display the Standard Mark. However, acquiring this authorization will necessitate manufacturers to secure a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, following Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Timeline for Implementation

While this directive is crucial for ensuring the quality of aluminium and aluminium alloy ingots and castings within the Indian market, it's important to clarify that it does not apply to goods or articles meant for export. This exemption acknowledges that international markets may have their own specific requirements and standards.
