We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - particular requirements - range hoods) (Quality Control) Order, 2023 impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has recently announced a new Quality Control Order known as the "Electrical Appliances for Kitchen (Quality Control) Order, 2023."

It will be enforceable six months after its publication in the Official Gazette.

According to this directive, all Kitchen Electrical Appliances must adhere to Indian Standard 302 (Part 2/Sec 31): 2009, focusing on the safety requirements for household and similar electrical appliances, particularly range hoods.

To show compliance, these appliances should display the Standard Mark obtained through a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, in accordance with Scheme-1 as detailed in Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations from 2018.

It should be noted that this order does not apply to goods or articles manufactured domestically for export purposes.

For micro-enterprises, as defined in clauses (h) and (m) of section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), this order will take effect twelve months after its publication. For small enterprises, defined under the same clauses of the Act, the order will come into force nine months after publication.

Furthermore, specific goods or articles falling under the category of Safety of household and similar electrical appliances - particular requirements - range hoods will be exempt from this order for a duration of eighteen months from the date of its publication.

Under this order, the Bureau of Indian Standards has been assigned as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance for Electrical Appliances used in the Kitchen.

Any person found violating the provisions of this order may face penalties as specified in the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
