BIS CERTIFICATION FOR Automotive Vehicles — Valves and Valve Accessories for Pneumatic Tyres IS 9081: 2024

IS 9081:2024 is the newest version of the standard for “Automotive Vehicles — Valves and Valve Accessories for Pneumatic Tyres — Specification”. It replaces the 2017 edition, which was withdrawn in April 2025. Released by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in October 2024, the standard sets clear guidelines for the quality, safety, and performance of tyre valves and related parts used in vehicles. To ensure these products are reliable and safe, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry has introduced a draft Quality Control Order (QCO) that will make BIS certification compulsory for all manufacturers, importers, and sellers, except for products made solely for export.

Once the order is officially published, companies will need to comply within specific timeframes—six months for large manufacturers, nine months for small enterprises, and twelve months for micro enterprises. Products must meet all the requirements of IS 9081:2024 and display the BIS Standard Mark. BIS will handle both certification and enforcement, and failing to comply could lead to legal action, making it important for businesses to get certified on time and follow the standard closely to maintain access to the Indian market.
