The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY) has formally introduced the "Electronics and Information Technology Goods (Compulsory Registration Requirement) Order, 2021." This mandate is established under the authority granted by subsections (1) and (2) of section 16, as well as subsection (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
The Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) is tasked with aiding the Ministry in conducting surveillance activities mandated by the Order. This surveillance aims to verify adherence to the standards specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
Manufacturers or licensees are responsible for bearing the costs of surveillance. This process includes randomly selecting samples from the open market, which are then procured and sent to BIS-recognized laboratories for testing, overseen by STPI.
Comprehensive guidelines for carrying out surveillance will be furnished to registered manufacturers and their authorized representatives. These instructions will also be relayed to the designated BIS-recognized test laboratories upon issuing Surveillance Orders. The orders will apply to specific Registration Numbers of licensees, manufacturers, and laboratories.
Registered manufacturers are urged to actively support surveillance activities. This entails keeping contact details current, promptly supplying required information and documents, and ensuring timely payments. Such cooperation is crucial for the efficient completion of the surveillance process, thereby averting potential penalties under the BIS Act, 2016. This notice is issued under the authorization of the Competent Authority.
