In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 2589:1975 for Hard Drawn Steel for Upholstery Springs.
This standard outlines the criteria for patented and non-patented hard-drawn steel wire used in upholstery springs. These springs are employed in the production of bed springs, mattresses, furniture cushions, furniture spring units, automobile seats, and back units.
This wire is not designed for mechanical spring production. The steel must be manufactured using an open hearth, electric furnace, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. Each ingot must contain adequate discard to prevent piping, harmful segregation, or other defects.
To meet the specified mechanical properties outlined in the standard, the wire must undergo cold drawing. The chemical composition must adhere to the standard requirements, and the wire size must meet the specified standard. Finished wire should be free from any hazardous flaws. The wire will be provided in a smooth, unoiled phosphate drawn condition unless otherwise instructed.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Hard Drawn Steel Wire for Upholstery Springs
Tensile test
Wrapping test
Torsion test
Coiling test
Reverse bend test
Packaging and labeling must comply with IS 2589:1975 standards. Each coil or bundle of wire should be securely bound and fastened, with clear marking of size, weight, physical condition, manufacturer's trademark or name on a metal tag firmly attached to each wire bundle. Optionally, the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) can also be applied to the material.
To utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), the Manufacturer is required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted following a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
