In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 14331:1995 for steel for high temperature bolting applications.
This standard outlines the steel requirements for fasteners designed for use at temperatures exceeding 3000 degrees Celsius, up to the maximum service temperature specified in the standard, which is 6500 degrees Celsius.
The choice of manufacturing process for steel production is at the discretion of the manufacturer. Sufficient discard from each ingot is necessary to ensure bars are free from piping, harmful porosity, segregation, and other defects. The reduction from cast ingot to the final bar size should be a minimum of four times, and from continuously cast billet to final bar size, it should be a minimum of six times. Surface defects such as scales, grooves, laps, cracks, and decarburization should be accounted for in the machining allowance as mutually agreed upon by the manufacturer and purchaser. Material supply must meet the general requirement outlined in IS 8910:1978.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Steel For High Temperature Bolting Applications.

Packing and marking procedures should adhere to IS 14331:1995 standards. Additionally, the ISI mark may be affixed to the material. Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted based on a successful evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, quality control, and testing capabilities, conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
