This standard outlines the criteria for mild steel rivet bars with a diameter of 16 mm or more, designated for shipbuilding purposes.
Rivet bars should be crafted from steel manufactured through open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a blend of these processes. The steel must be of the semi-killed or killed type. Chemical analysis must adhere to the specified standard.
The core of rivet bars should be devoid of detrimental concentrations of sulfur segregates and other non-metallic substances.
Rivet bars must be accurately rolled to meet the specified dimensions and tolerances. The final product must be devoid of surface and internal defects that could compromise its intended application.

MARKING
Marking will adhere to IS 3298:1981 standards. Optionally, the material may also feature a standard mark (ISI mark).
To use the standard mark (ISI Mark), the Manufacturer is required to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted after a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
