This standard outlines the specifications for half-round mild steel wire utilized in producing split pins.

Round wire undergoes rolling or drawing processes, or a combination of both, to form half-round wire for the manufacture of split pins. An annealing treatment is necessary during the production of round wire or at an intermediate stage of rolling or drawing to ensure the ductility of split pins.

The wire should be drawn from mild steel manufactured using open hearth, electric, duplex, basic oxygen, or a combination of these processes. The chemical composition must conform to the specified standard.

The nominal sizes of these wires correspond to the diameter of the hole intended for a particular size of split pin. The sizes and dimensions of half-round steel wire must adhere to the standard specifications. All finished wires must be accurately drawn to the specified dimensions and free from splits, surface flaws, rough or jagged edges, and other potentially detrimental surface defects.

MARKING

Every wire coil should have clear markings indicating the finish, wire size, lot number, and manufacturer's trademark or name. Additionally, the material may bear a standard mark (ISI Mark)

To use the standard mark (ISI Mark), the Manufacturer is required to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted after a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
