In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 9516:1980 for heat resisting steel.
This standard outlines the specifications for three grades of wrought heat-resisting steels. These steels are commonly employed in applications where withstanding the impact of hot gases and combustion products at temperatures exceeding 550°C is essential.
This standard excludes the specifications for creep-resistant steels and valve steels intended for internal combustion engines. Unless stated otherwise, this Indian Standard is applicable to all forms of hot-worked or cold-worked products supplied in the heat-treated condition.
The material supply must adhere to the general requirements outlined in IS 1387. According to this standard, steel delivery must align with one of the requirement classes specified in Table 1 of IS 9516:1980. It's essential for the material to be devoid of any potentially detrimental internal and surface flaws. Additionally, the finished product must undergo product analysis, ensuring that steel's mechanical properties meet standard requirements. Dimensions and tolerances should be mutually agreed upon during the inquiry and ordering process.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Heat Resisting Steel.

Steel should be adequately packed or bundled. Each packet or bundle should include a metal tag displaying the manufacturer's name and trademark, the steel grade, the cast number, or any other identifying mark. Additionally, the material may bear the ISI mark.
Manufacturers are required to secure a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize a standard mark (ISI Mark). This license is granted following a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises by the Bureau.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
