This standard specifies the specifications for low carbon steel wire rivets used in the bearing industry.
Steel should be manufactured utilizing an open hearth, electric, acid Bessemer, duplex, basic oxygen process, or a combination thereof. Prior approval from the purchaser is necessary if the manufacturer opts for a different process. In cases where the basic oxygen process is utilized, the nitrogen content should not surpass 0.007 percent.
Steel must be fully killed, with a minimum silicon content of 0.1 percent for silicon killed steel. Each ingot should undergo adequate reduction and discard to eliminate piping, segregation, and other defects. Ingots, blooms, or billets must be rough machined, chipped, ground, or otherwise prepared to remove surface imperfections that could lead to defects in the finished wire. The finished wire must be precisely and cleanly drawn to the specified size, ensuring it is in excellent condition without any splits or surface flaws.
A well-maintained laboratory is essential for conducting various tests according to the methods outlined in the standard. Steel must meet the requirements specified in the standard when subjected to testing.
PACKING AND MARKING
The wire should be provided in coil form and packaged securely to prevent corrosion during transportation. Each coil must be labeled with the wire's nominal size, coil weight, manufacturing date, and manufacturer's name or trademark. Optionally, each coil may bear a standard mark (ISI Mark). Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark), which is granted upon meeting all relevant requirements of applicable Indian standards.
