In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has issued Quality Control Orders for styrene (vinyl benzene) in 2002. According to this directive, obtaining BIS certification for styrene (vinyl benzene) is mandatory. Styrene (vinyl benzene) must adhere to IS 4105:2020 and display the Standard Mark (ISI Mark) under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards, as per Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations 2018.
For obtaining a BIS certificate for styrene (vinyl benzene), it's crucial for the manufacturer to verify that the substance complies with relevant Indian standards. IS 4105:2020 serves as the designated Indian standard for styrene (vinyl benzene).
Let's delve deeper into IS 4150:2020 regarding styrene (vinyl benzene).
There will be two grades of material:
Grade 1: Used in the plastics industry
Grade 2: Used in the Rubber industry
The subsequent test must be conducted for Styrene Vinyl Benzene.
Determination of relative density
Determination of refractive index
Determination of freezing point
Determination of aldehyde and polymer content
Determination of peroxides, chloride
Determination of solubility of polymers and other tests
Packaging and labeling procedures will align with IS 4105:2020 guidelines. It's imperative that all containers are dry, clean, and devoid of styrene-soluble substances, ensuring leakproof integrity. Containers must be tightly sealed, shielded from light and heat, and stored in a cool environment.
Each container must display the material's name and grade, manufacturer's name and trademark, batch number, manufacturing date, net and gross weight, and inhibitor content. Additionally, the container may feature the Standard Mark (ISI Mark).
Manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark) for styrene (vinyl benzene). The Bureau of Indian Standards will grant this license following a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, processes, quality control, and testing capabilities conducted during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
