OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, utilizing authorities granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and becomes effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, except for previously conducted matters under the superseded order.

Under this Order, pertaining to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Steel used in Electrically Welded Round Link Chains, domestically produced steel and related products meeting alternative specifications requested by international purchasers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with the corresponding Indian Standards 6967: 1973, effective immediately upon implementation, and include a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
