OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020 and becomes effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for actions taken before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Steel used in the production of volute and helical springs for railway rolling stock, domestically produced steel and steel products meeting specifications requested by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 3195: 1992 upon implementation, and must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
