We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Steel and Steel Products (Structural Weather resistant steel) (Quality Control) Order, 2024 impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and will be effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, with exceptions for actions taken before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly Structural Weather-Resistant Steel, domestically produced steel and steel products meeting specifications requested by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 11587:1986 immediately upon its implementation. Additionally, it must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
