The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order supersedes the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and will come into effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, with exceptions for actions conducted prior to this update.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, specifically Pre-painted Aluminium Zinc Alloy Metallic Coated Steel Strip and Sheet (Plain), domestically manufactured steel and products meeting alternative specifications exempted from requirements set by foreign buyers for export

Each steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the corresponding Indian Standard 15965: 2012 immediately upon implementation. Additionally, it must be accompanied by a Test Certificate displaying the Standard Mark issued by a BIS-certified manufacturer.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.
