OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has released the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette.

It applies to steel and steel products, specifically containers like tanks, casks, drums, cans, boxes, and similar items (excluding compressed or liquefied gas), made from tin plate or tin free steel, with capacities ranging from 50 to 300 litres.

However, it does not apply to steel and steel products meant for export that comply with foreign specifications.

The designated goods and articles must be produced using tin plate and tin free steel as raw materials. The Bureau of Indian Standards is assigned as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.

Any breach of this Order may result in penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).
