The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced new guidelines for the implementation of the revised standard IS/IEC 60669-2-1:2021, which pertains to electronic switches used in household and similar fixed electrical installations. This update is vital for all stakeholders involved in the certification of dimmers for LED products.
Transition Deadline: All existing licensees certified under IS/IEC 60669-2-1:2008 are required to transition to the updated standard by October 12, 2024. After this date, licenses will become invalid unless compliance with the 2021 standard is confirmed.
Testing Requirements: Existing licensees must submit conformance test reports from BIS-recognized laboratories for all lead models previously tested under the 2008 standard. Additionally, an undertaking is required to confirm that the new requirements have been implemented across all existing models within their licensed scope.
Consequences for Non-Compliance: Licensees who do not complete the necessary actions by the deadline risk cancellation of their license or removal of models from their licensed scope.
Guidelines for New Applicants: Applications currently being processed under the old standard can be finalized, provided applicants agree to transition to the revised standard by the deadline. No new applications will be accepted under the 2008 standard after October 12, 2024.
Changes in License Scope: Similar provisions for changes in scope apply to new applicants, with the same compliance deadline.
All affected parties are urged to take prompt action to ensure compliance with these guidelines. The Registration Department will monitor the implementation process and requires all licensees to confirm their compliance within two weeks following the October 12 deadline.
These changes highlight the critical importance of adhering to updated standards for the safety and quality of electrical installations. By preparing for this transition now, stakeholders can facilitate a smooth compliance process.
Stay tuned for further updates and detailed information on effectively navigating these changes.
