OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released an extension order named the "Copper Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024."

Effective Dates:

The effective date for entities other than Micro and Small Enterprises is October 19, 2024.
The implementation date for Small Enterprises is set for January 19, 2025.
The implementation date for Micro Enterprises is scheduled for April 19, 2025.

Copper Products must meet Indian Standard IS 4412:1981 (pertaining to Copper wires for general engineering purposes). They are required to display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions:

Micro and small enterprises, as outlined in the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), are required to comply with the designated Indian Standards.
This directive excludes goods or articles intended for domestic production for the purpose of export.

Enforcement: The Bureau will act as the certifying and enforcing body for Copper Products.

Penalties:Any individual found violating the provisions of this order will be subject to penalties under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016.
