Boric acid, as outlined in IS 10116:2015, is subject to specific requirements, sampling, and testing methods. This standard applies to boric acid utilized across various industries including capacitor production, electronics, nuclear energy, foundries, fireproofing, glass and ceramics, explosives, refractories, paints, chemicals, dye intermediates, electroplating, leather, adhesives, and enamel. It encompasses specification necessities for diverse applications, excluding cosmetics.

GRADES

The substance will be categorized into 3 grades:

1. Special quality (SQ): Boric acid tailored for applications in capacitors, nuclear energy, electronics, foundries, and flame-retardant workwear.

2. Technical (TECH):Boric acid optimized for utilization in the glass, refractories, ceramics, paints, chemicals, dye intermediates, electroplating, adhesives, leather, and enamel sectors.

3. Explosive

Special quality grade material should be in granular form, while technical grade material may be in granules, powder, crystals, or flakes. All grades must be devoid of odor, dirt, foreign matter, and impurities.

Upon examination as per the designated method, the material must fulfill the criteria outlined in the standard.

Manufacturers must acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards to use the standard mark (ISI Mark), which is granted after a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and production processes.
