In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 15911:2010 for Structural Steel.
This standard delineates the specifications for low tensile structural steel, including plain round bars of all sizes, square bars of all sizes, flat bars of all sizes, angles up to 50mm x 50mm x 10mm, tee sections up to 100mm x 100mm x 12mm, and channels up to 100mm x 60mm x 12mm.
This standard pertains to structural steel designed for various general purposes including door and window frames, window bars, grills, steel gates, handrails, building hardware, fencing posts, and tie bars. However, it is not suitable for dynamic loading applications beyond wind loads, such as platform roofs, foot overbridges, office buildings, and similar structures.
The steel must be categorized into three grades: E165, E170, and E215.
The manufacturer has discretion over the processes involved in steel production and subsequent hot rolling into various forms such as strips, sections, flats, and bars. Steel must be either killed or semi-killed, and all finished steel must undergo thorough rolling.. The chemical composition must be in accordance with applicable standards. The general requirements for structural steel supply must conform to IS 8910.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Structural Steels.

Except for round, square, and hexagonal bars and flats, each product must either bear a tag or be marked with the manufacturer's name or trademark. Additionally, the standard mark (ISI Mark) may be applied to the material.
To utilize a standard mark (ISI Mark), the Manufacturer needs to acquire a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted following a thorough evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, production processes, and quality control and testing capabilities during an on-site visit to the manufacturing premises.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
