OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers has announced the Amendment Order titled "Acetic Acid (Quality Control) Order, 2019," scheduled to be effective from August 3, 2024.

Products categorized as Acetic Acid must comply with Indian Standard IS 695:1986 and display the Standard Mark. Manufacturers must obtain a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-I of Schedule-II of the BIS (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

It is essential to emphasize that this regulation does not extend to goods or items, specifically Acetic Acid, intended for export, provided they meet the specifications required by the overseas purchaser.

Under this order, the Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the principal authority responsible for certifying and ensuring adherence to the Standard Mark for Acetic Acid.

Furthermore, the District Industries Centre within the State Government's Department of Industries will act as an enforcing authority.

This regulatory measure is intended to uphold the quality and conformity of Acetic Acid in the market, encouraging standardized practices to benefit consumers and the chemical industry alike.
