The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, utilizing authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and becomes effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, excluding actions taken before this replacement.

Under this Order, pertaining to steel and steel products, particularly alloys utilized in electrical resistance metallic heating elements, domestically produced steel and related products that meet alternative specifications demanded by foreign purchasers for export shall be exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standards 12045: 1987 upon immediate implementation. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.
