OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order 2024, exercising authority conferred by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020, taking effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for previously conducted matters.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly those designated for cold heading or cold extrusion applications—specification: Part 2 Stainless steel—locally manufactured steel and steel products that meet other specifications demanded by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must conform to the applicable Indian Standards 11169 (Part 2): 1989 without delay upon implementation. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
