The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, utilizing authority granted under sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020 and takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for matters conducted before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly Carbon Steel Cast Billet Ingots Billets Blooms and Slabs for Rerolling purposes - Specification, domestically produced steel and steel products are exempted from conforming to any other specifications demanded by foreign buyers for export.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standard 14650: 1999 immediately upon implementation, and must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by an accredited manufacturer

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.
