The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the Bolts, Nuts, and Fasteners (Quality Control) Order for the year 2024, outlining its main provisions.

Effective Date and Standards:This Order will take effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette. Goods, specifically bolts, nuts, and fasteners, must comply with Indian Standard 7534:1985 (Sliding locking bolts for use with padlocks). They must display the Standard Mark under a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards in accordance with Scheme-1 of Schedule-II of the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

Exceptions:

• This Order does not affect goods produced domestically for export.

• It does not cover imported goods that form part of finished products, sub-assemblies, or components.

• Micro-enterprises and small enterprises, as defined under the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006, are granted exemptions until specified deadlines.

• Imported goods intended for manufacturing may be exempted for up to three years from the start of this Order, subject to specific conditions.

Implementation Dates:

For entities other than Micro and Small Enterprises: Effective from August 1, 2024. For Micro Enterprises: Effective from February 1, 2025. For Small Enterprises: Effective from November 1, 2024.
