The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for activities conducted before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the specifications for Cold-Reduced and Hot-Rolled Carbon Steel Sheet for Porcelain Enamelling, domestically produced steel and steel products are exempted if they conform to specifications requested by foreign buyers for export.

Each steel and steel product listed in this Order must comply with the respective Indian Standard 9485: 1980 upon immediate implementation. Additionally, it must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer recognized by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
