OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order for 2024, utilizing authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order of 2020 and takes effect upon publication in the Official Gazette, except for actions taken before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Specification for Mild Steel Rivet Bars used in Ship Building, domestically produced steel and steel products are exempt if they meet specifications requested by foreign buyers for export.

Each steel and steel product specified in this Order must adhere to the applicable Indian Standard 3298: 1981 without delay upon implementation. Additionally, it must be accompanied by a Test Certificate featuring the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified by the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.

Violation of any provision of this Order may result in penalties as per section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any amendments or updates to the Indian Standards specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards will apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
