We have crucial announcement concerning the Indian Standard for the Steel and Steel Products (Hot Rolled Steel Sheet, Plate and Strip for Forming and Flanging purposes) (Quality Control) Order, 2024 impacting all current license holders, new applicants, manufacturers, importers, and product sellers.

OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority of sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order supersedes the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for matters initiated before this update.

This Order applies to steel and steel products, specifically Hot Rolled Steel Sheet, Plate, and Strip used for Forming and Flanging purposes. Domestically manufactured steel and steel products meeting alternative specifications required by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with Indian Standards 5986: 2017 immediately upon implementation and must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
