OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order supersedes the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and becomes effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for matters conducted before this update.

This Order applies to steel and steel products, specifically Hot Rolled Steel Strip used for Welded Tubes and Pipes. Domestically manufactured steel and steel products that meet alternative specifications required by foreign buyers for export are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must comply with Indian Standards 10748: 2004 immediately upon implementation and must include a Test Certificate with the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products meeting the specifications must display the Standard Mark under a license issued by the Bureau of Indian Standards as per Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and enforcing compliance with this Order.

Failure to comply with any provision of this Order is subject to penalties under section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any changes or updates made by the Bureau of Indian Standards to the specified Indian Standards shall apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
