OVERVIEW

The Ministry of Steel has announced the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and becomes effective upon its publication in the Official Gazette, with the exception of matters initiated before this replacement.

According to this Order, which pertains to steel and steel products, particularly the Stock for Forgings derived from Continuously Cast Blooms, Billets, and Slabs – Specification, domestically produced steel and steel products that meet alternative specifications mandated by foreign purchasers for export are granted exemption.

Every steel and steel product specified in this Order must comply with the relevant Indian Standards 13352:1992 from the moment it comes into force. They must also be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.

Violation of any provision of this Order may result in penalties as per section 29 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016).

Any amendments or updates to the Indian Standards specified by the Bureau of Indian Standards will apply to this Order from the date of their publication by the Bureau.
