The Ministry of Steel has announced the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and takes effect upon its publication in the Official Gazette, except for actions undertaken before this replacement.

According to this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly concerning the Specification for Thermostat Metal Sheet and Strip, domestically produced steel and steel products that meet alternative specifications mandated by overseas buyers for export are granted exemption.

Every steel and steel product outlined in this Order must comply with the respective Indian Standard 5478:1969 immediately upon implementation. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a manufacturer certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards.

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
