The Ministry of Steel has issued the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2024, under the authority granted by sections 16, 17, and sub-section (3) of section 25 of the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 (11 of 2016). This Order replaces the Steel and Steel Products (Quality Control) Order, 2020, and will be effective upon publication in the Official Gazette, except for actions initiated before this replacement.

Under this Order, which applies to steel and steel products, particularly the Structural Steel (Ordinary Quality)-Specification, domestically produced steel and steel products that meet alternative specifications requested by foreign buyers for export purposes are exempted.

Each steel and steel product specified under this Order must adhere to Indian Standards 15911:2010 immediately upon its enactment. Additionally, they must be accompanied by a Test Certificate bearing the Standard Mark issued by a certified manufacturer under the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).

Moreover, products and articles that meet these specifications must display the Standard Mark, authorized by a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme – I of Schedule – II to the Bureau of Indian Standards (Conformity Assessment) Regulations, 2018.

The Bureau of Indian Standards is appointed as the authority responsible for certifying and ensuring compliance with this Order.
