In today's competitive landscape, maintaining market presence without a certified, high-quality product can be challenging. Obtaining a BIS license may also be essential for selling products in the Indian market. To achieve BIS certification and ensure product quality, manufacturers must adhere to the specified Indian standards.
Let's delve deeper into at IS 16481: 2022 Synthetic Micro-Fibres for cement-based Matrix use.
IS 16481:2022 pertains to Synthetic Micro-Fibres. This Indian Standard was adopted by the Bureau of Indian Standards following approval from the Textile Division Council and the finalization of the draft by the Technical Textiles for Build Tech Sectional Committee.
This standard outlines the physical, application, and functional prerequisites for synthetic microfibers, including polyester, nylon, and polypropylene fibers. These fibers are intended for reinforcement in cement-based matrices, commonly employed in various construction applications such as concrete roads, industrial and commercial floors, residential and commercial buildings, bridges, water retaining structures, dams, ports, underwater concrete structures, plaster, and shotcrete.
This standard focuses on the specifications for synthetic fibers utilized as secondary reinforcement in concrete, including polyester, polypropylene, and nylon. Synthetic fibers employed for this purpose must comply with the requirements outlined in clause 4 of the standard, as well as meeting the physical, application, and functional prerequisites specified throughout the document.
For secondary reinforcement in cement-based matrices, only virgin synthetic fibers within cut lengths of 6mm to 25mm, which are chemically inert to the concrete environment, are permissible; the use of recycled materials is prohibited. To ensure uniform functional properties, it's essential for the fibers to be thoroughly dispersed throughout the cement-based matrix.
The subsequent test must be conducted for Synthetic Micro-Fibres
Isophthalic acid content
Resistance of fibres
Water absorptive capacity
Specific gravity
Melting and glass transition temperature
Viscosity
Packaging and labeling procedures must adhere to the guidelines outlined in IS 16481:2022. Bags or paper pouches used for packaging must display the required information as specified within the standard.
In compliance with this standard, products may qualify for certification under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016, alongside its associated Rules and Regulations. These certified products are eligible to bear the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). To utilize the standard mark (ISI Mark), manufacturers are required to obtain a BIS license from the Bureau of Indian Standards. This license is granted subsequent to a successful evaluation of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control measures, testing capabilities, and production processes.
Acquiring a BIS license requires a comprehensive review of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control abilities, testing resources, and production procedures. This thorough assessment guarantees that products not only adhere to regulations but also prioritize consumer safety and reliability.
