This standard applies to electric motor-operated food mixers, including liquidizers and grinders, designed for domestic use and capable of operating at voltages up to 250 V.. It also encompasses multipurpose machines utilized with particular accessories. The standard delineates the general and safety prerequisites for domestic electric food mixers utilized in blending liquids, preparing food slurries or pulps, and pulverizing dry food items. Assessing the performance of food mixers is crucial in gauging their quality.

Appliances will be categorized into the following groups: Class I, Class II, and Class III.

In addition to this standard's specifications, the general requirements outlined in IS: 302-1979* will also be applicable. The exterior coating applied to metal parts must withstand heat and moisture effectively. It should remain unaffected by temperature fluctuations during regular use or endurance testing. The exterior finish of the food mixer body should resist staining caused by spills from the mixing bowl.

Appliances should be constructed to operate safely under normal usage conditions, ensuring user and environmental safety even in the event of careless operation. This is achieved by meeting the relevant requirements outlined in this standard, with compliance verified through comprehensive testing. The testing procedures specified in IS302 shall be followed. Additionally, appliances must be designed and enclosed to provide sufficient protection against accidental contact with live parts.

Each variant of the Domestic Electric Food Mixer must undergo testing in the following manner:

• Rated voltage

• Rated input (wattage)

• Function (grinder/ liquidizer/ centrifugal juicer)

• Rated Capacity (for a function)

• Normal Load (in terms of recipe)

• Time rating

• Class of appliance

• Insulation class

LABELING

Labeling and marking must adhere to IS 4250: 1980 standards. Compliant with IS 4250: 1980 requirements, the product may be certified under the Bureau of Indian Standards Act, 2016 and associated Regulations, and adorned with the Standard Mark (ISI Mark). To use the ISI Mark, the Manufacturer must secure a BIS license, obtained after a thorough assessment of manufacturing infrastructure, quality control, testing capabilities, and production processes by the BIS.

PROCESS FOR BIS ISI MARK CERTIFICATION
