Exemption of Cloud implemented IP Routers and Wi-Fi CPEs from Security Certification
The National Centre for Communication Security (NCCS), Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, through an Office Memorandum dated 7 July 2025, has extended the exemption granted to cloud-based IP routers and Wi-Fi CPEs from mandatory security certification.
Key Highlights:Earlier, exemptions were provided under notifications dated 29 November 2024 and 13 December 2024, valid until 31 May 2025.
This exemption period has now been extended until 31 March 2026.
During this period, such products will not be required to undergo mandatory security testing.
The decision has been issued with the approval of the Sr. DDG, NCCS.
For OEMs & Importers: Provides additional time to align products with future certification requirements without immediate compliance costs.
For Service Providers: Ensures continuity in the use of cloud-implemented routers and Wi-Fi CPEs without disruption.
Overall: This extension supports ease of doing business and encourages wider deployment of cloud-enabled communication technologies while balancing regulatory needs.
