The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released a Quality Control Order named the "Electrical Appliances for Domestic Water Heating (Quality Control) Order, 2024." It will come into effect six months following its publication in the Official Gazette.

As per this directive, all electrical appliances intended for domestic water heating must meet precise quality standards outlined in Indian Standard 17150:2019 (Mini domestic water heater for use with piped natural gas (PNG)). Additionally, these products must prominently display the Standard Mark to signify adherence to these standards and acquire a license from the Bureau of Indian Standards under Scheme-1 as specified in Schedule-II of the Regulations for Conformity Assessment of the Bureau of Indian Standards, 2018.

However, it is crucial to note that this order excludes goods or articles produced domestically for the purpose of export.

Additionally, for micro enterprises defined under clauses (h) and (m) of Section 2 of the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Act, 2006 (27 of 2006), this requirement will be enforced twelve months after the publication date of this notification.

Additionally, small enterprises falling under the clauses of the aforementioned Act will need to comply with this provision nine months from the publication date.
